Welcome to The Barn Cottage

The Barn CottageOff the beaten track and reached by a narrow farm lane, The Barn Cottage at Wood House Farm is situated under Oxenber Hill, above the picturesque village of Austwick, enjoying panoramic views of the magnificent limestone hills of the Three Peaks area of the Yorkshire dales National Park.

The Barn Cottage was created by the owners of Wood House Farm, Frances and Michael Southworth, in 1993 by converting a hay barn adjoining the farmhouse.

It is an attractive and comfortable blend of old beams, exposed stonework and modern amenities providing a very high standard of self-catering accommodation. Situated in the National Park, and on the Pennine Bridleway, it is an ideal location for walking, horse riding (there is a stable available) and touring within the Dales and to the Lake District.

Oxenber HillThe pretty village of Austwick, which has a Post Office/Shop, Pub, Church and Tennis Courts, is a 3 minute drive or 15 minute walk away. Settle, a market town, is 4 miles away.

Oxenber Hill is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, with limestone pavements, footpaths, wild flowers and lovely walks with views of Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent. And stunning skies.

The surrounding area has many, and varied, attractions for the visitor, with superb walking, riding and cycling amidst breathtaking scenery.

For the geologist there are the limestone pavements, Norber erratics and caves to explore. There are abbeys, churches, castles and historic houses, and the lake district is only an hour's drive away with its beautiful lakes and mountains. If you look at our Links page you will find a number of useful websites.

SkyIf it is gardens you enjoy there is the world famous Topiary at Levens Hall and the Royal Horticultural Gardens at Harlow Carr near Harrogate.

Oh, and don't forget the Settle-Carlisle railway.

But above all you will find comfort, peace and quiet at The Barn Cottage — and, of course, a warm welcome.
